Cpt. Mate Vitaljić / Croatia

Mate was born 23 April 1966 in Split. He lives in Komiža where he frequented elementary school. He continued his education in Split where he gradated from high school and then college for navigation in 1989. He is married with three children.

For more than 20 years, he has been tied to the sea and the maritime profession.

He began his career as an officer on Jadroplov’s cargo ships where he made it to the rank of First Officer. As a young officer, he had the opportunity to be in command of passenger ships owned by Sem Maritime Company and Blue Line. After many years in this profession, he was hired as a commander by Adria Ferries, an Italian company, and later on as an inspector on their passenger ships.

In 2006, he returned to Croatia and became the CEO of Split Tours and Linijska Nacionalna Plovidba companies, the latter dealing with liner maritime transport.

In 2011, he founded his own company and bought My Korab of which he is the captain.

In his long maritime career, he achieved the rank of Master and also a number of certificates demanded by the STCW convention.

In his career, Mate was in command of passenger ships, passenger catamarans and yachts up to 140 metres in length and also held positions of a safety manager and a person in charge in maritime companies.

As he originates from Komiža on the island of Vis, he is well acquainted with the Adriatic sea, its islands and coves.

His other interests are viticulture and fishing.

He speaks English and Italian.
